Interview Patty

The Tyranny of Visible Effort

October 13, 2026

Where are you still pricing for effort instead of impact?

The meeting feels like a disaster.

Nine minutes in Nina’s client interrupts her. “Wait. That’s it?”

Nina feels the blood rise hot into her face. She reviewed two years of materials, diagnosed the issue in advance, and delivered her recommendation with surgical precision. Nine minutes. No elaborate deck. No workshop theatrics. No whiteboard covered in sticky notes to make the room feel they got their money’s worth…

Patty’s Perspective . . .

“That’s it?” can feel demoralizing when you’ve been conditioned to equate value with visible effort.

Nina smiles, though later she admitted it felt more like baring her teeth. “Yes,” she says. “The long version would be more expensive, not more useful.”

The room goes silent.

Three months later, that same client referred two companies to her and told both of them some version of the same thing, “She sees what other people miss.”

The biggest myth in delivering an expert service: your client is paying for the time and deliverables.

In truth, that client is hiring you for your expertise, experience and judgment. The deliverables are one outcome of that work but not usually where the real value lies.

The best clients are paying for compressed wisdom. Pattern recognition. Discernment under pressure. The ability to remove ten false paths and leave one with a light illuminating the way.

Consider the attorney who can walk into a tense negotiation and, within minutes, identify the one concession that will unlock movement without weakening her client’s position.

Or the brand strategist who can hear a founder describe her business for four minutes and instantly detect the real problem is not messaging but status anxiety.

Or the CPA who can describe in one sentence the solution to a debt problem her client spent a year stressing over.

These experts are not being paid because the hour is full. They are being paid because the hour mattered.

Clients often do not have language for this. They say things like, “She’s worth every penny,” or “She saved us months,” or “I don’t know how she knew, but she knew.”

That is not fluff. That is the market trying, imperfectly, to describe the economic value of judgment.

Nina no longer apologizes for brevity. She uses this line when buyers press for more detail too early: “You are not paying for a longer road to the answer.”

If your expertise can change the trajectory of a business in one sentence, why are you still describing your value like a collection of tasks, calls, and deliverables?

Now What?

The exit process is complicated, technical, and often biased—especially for women, who are regularly rushed, undervalued, and pressured into damaging compromises.

Your transition will, quite literally, change your life. You’ll experience a broad range of emotions, from fear and doubt to pride and joy.

And it will be complex. And challenging. And stressful.

I specialize in this work because you deserve better. I’ll help you design an Elegant Exit™—one grounded in dignity, clarity, and self-respect.

When she started working with me, Jill was clear: “On paper, everything works—but I feel stuck. I need an advisor who can help me see options I can’t see on my own. Should I evolve, exit, or redesign the business entirely?”

What shifted wasn’t burnout or crisis. It was clarity.

Feeling stuck used to be her default mode. “I don't think I realized the level of dissatisfaction I was living in and where that was seeping into all areas of my life, until the curtain got pulled back a bit. Because for 99.9% of us, we just keep going and it becomes our next normal.”

Now, she says “I don’t see the way out, but I see the why out.”

That awareness changes everything. Because exit transitions don’t begin with buyers or valuations. They begin with honesty.

In fact, for women running companies under $5M in annual revenue, I’ve come to believe that you have more control, better focus on your real priorities, and better odds of building wealth when you build Living Capital™, instead of trying to sell your business to a stranger (what I call Latent Capital™).

An exit is elegant only if it increases your personal wealth while decreasing the stress required to maintain it.

Anything else is just endurance with better branding.

The Elegant Exit™ is how you convert business success into real wealth—without sacrificing your nervous system to get there.

As your advocate, I’m looking out for your best interests, guiding you to discover right-fit options, execute critical decisions, and cultivate personal wealth.

A Note from Patty...

My life’s work is empowering high-achieving women business owners to fine-tune their operations and scale their revenue for strategic growth, creating real business value and emerging exit ready. That value can transform into wealth when they are ready to exit their company - and I believe that wealth in the hands of women elevates society as a whole.
