Enterprise Entrepreneurship:

How To Unleash Great Ideas In A Big Company

If someone had asked me 10 years ago to define an entrepreneur, I probably would have described a person alone in a garage, inventing the next thing that will revolutionize the world. Or a business owner working seven days a week to make his or her dream a reality. Today, I have a broader view.

The Regret Test:

A Different Way to Think About Career Decisions

Your career is full of decisions. And I’m not just talking about the life-altering ones, like finally quitting a job you hate or accepting a new role across the country—but the smaller, everyday ones, too, like deciding to make the effort to find a mentor or committing to go to that networking event instead of succumbing to the lure of your couch.

Tips for running effective meetings

An effective meeting is nothing without planning

Meetings are an important part of working life and are a great way to ensure that everyone is on the same page and knows what is happening within the workplace.

But an ineffective meeting is a drain on time, resources – and your energy. How often have you endured a marathon meeting of little relevance or worth, silently wishing yourself somewhere else. Anywhere.

An effective meeting is nothing without planning, so by following the tips below, and encouraging co-workers to do the same, meetings should run smoothly and effectively, providing an encouraging space to share ideas.

Be prepared

  • Email an agenda 24 hours in advance

Small Business Attire for Women

Tips For Working Women On How To Dress For Success

Working from home allows women to attend conference calls in sweats and send emails at 2 a.m. in pajamas. But at some point you will have meetings with clients, investors, donors, or other business professionals.

Competing in small business requires many skills, but knowing how to dress for a business situation can help you seal the deal in face-to-face meetings. In certain industries, how you dress is critical.

For example, if you design and sell clothing to women’s specialty stores, showing up wearing something from your own product line may sound like a good idea, but the wrong outfit will cost you the contract. It is better to bring product samples than to serve as a model for your own clothing.

Your attire should not upstage an event or the person you are meeting with. You want to be remembered for your business sense and not for a see-through lacy top or stilettos. Accessories should also be kept modest and tasteful.

Remember, dressing to show off will not impress business men or women, and can hurt your professional image if you draw too much attention to yourself because you may not be seen as a team player.
