2. Determine Your Type - Your store has a personality, and you need to match employees to your store environment. Ask yourself what kind of person you want to work in your store. 4. Delegate Decision-Making - Have a manager or an assistant manager conduct initial interviews. Instruct them to select a candidate for a second interview who best matches the job description and employee type you have decided on. 5. Establish Criteria for Trial Period - Once you hire an employee, establish a set of criteria for evaluating that employee during an initial trial period. You should meet with managers part-way through the trial period for a preliminary evaluation. Have a final meeting with managers at the end of the trial period and come to a consensus about the suitability of the new employee.
