5 Tips For Women In Business

Tip #1: Dress to impress - For women in business, it’s important to be taken seriously. So remember to keep those necklines high, those hemlines low and stick with neutrals and pastels (blind your employers with your work ethic, not your wardrobe!). Also remember that some people have allergies, so go easy on the perfume. And as for accessories, keep it simple: a wristwatch, a string of pearls or diamond studs should do the trick.

Tip #2: Networking in the business world - It might not seem like it, but networking is an ongoing thing. It’s more than just chatting up your fellow men and women in business at a conference though; it’s about connecting.
Tip #3: Make a checklist - Most busy people are dependent on multitasking, so it’s not that uncommon to be making checklists in your head while shampooing your hair. But then what happens? You get the kids ready for school, get yourself ready for work and let the dogs out before you all pile into the car. When you get to work you realize that you left your presentation notes on your coffee table at home. An easy way to avoid this? Write it down! Most of us don’t have an eidetic memory, so write yourself little ‘don’t forget’ notes.
Tip #4: Effective business communication - The majority of communication (a percentage that has been quoted at as high as ninety three percent!) is nonverbal, dependent upon your gestures, body language and the tone of your voice. Caught in the digital age though, we often don’t have our nonverbals to lean on. Emails are the most problematic venue here, but the most important thing to remember is to be yourself!
Tip #5: Get a life - You are more than just your job! Chances are you have a family and friends, likes and dislikes, hobbies and aspirations. Go on a family hike or take a night off and go out with the girls. Take time to appreciate the little things. Stressing yourself out more than you need to isn’t going to do anyone any good.
