4 Ways to Overcome Complacency in Your Business

Ways to create the change you want and need

Have you ever said any of these statements over the course of your career? - “I want to make more money”, “I want to move up in my organization”,

“Our organization needs to change,” “I want to start a business,” or “I want to grow my business.”  



Now the bigger question is, have you been saying it for years, year after year? Or have you found ways to create the change you want and need?  Even if so, what’s next for you?  No matter your answer to that question, these four behaviors are designed to shake things in your career or business.

    Don’t be afraid to remove people! People are doing one of two things in your life, adding value or detracting value.  We make the mistake of keeping those that detract value around way too long.  

    Don’t be afraid to fail! I get it! The majority of us hate to fail. I mean who wakes up and wants to feel like they wasted time, lost money, or should have made a different decision?  But I tell people all the time, “I’m not afraid of failure, but I am afraid of regret!” What is that “thing” you keep thinking about?

    Don’t be afraid to hire someone to kick you in the butt! Often times we “hire” our girlfriends to listen to our organizational and entrepreneurial sob stories.   They typically get paid in dinner and wine after work or sometimes not at all, just a mouthful of complaints over the phone.  

    Don’t be afraid to hold the mirror up. I’m sure that there are many factors that play into your discontentment in your career or business.       

Now what?
 
No one else owns your professional or personal contentment but you.  Make decisions, even hard ones that drive you toward a more fulfilling career or business.  Change your situation.  And even if it can’t be changed due to contractual obligations, change your attitude, as it will be your determining factor in the type of impact you’ll make on others, in business, and most importantly yourself!
 
You were created to lead, not to allow life and others to lead you.
