Being Honest is Very Valuable in Business
A straight shooter is someone who is honest and straightforward in her business dealings
and in the way she treats her business colleagues. A straight shooter has integrity and can be trusted to do what he says. Being honest and having integrity is very valuable in business, as people may be more willing to do business with someone they perceive as trustworthy. Employees may also value a boss who is forthright, as they will be able to trust what he says, and managers who possess this attribute often find it helps to build staff loyalty.
Step 1
Communicate your values and vision clearly. Use plain language and active listening when talking to subordinates and other managers.
Step 2
Treat your employees or subordinates as equal partners. Make employees feel they are a valued part of the team by never talking down to them. Elicit opinions and ideas from staff members and give employees credit for any ideas they come up with that you use. Walk around the office, talk to employees, learn their names and treat them with respect.
Step 3
Focus on acting correctly in business situations. This may mean taking decisions that may cost the company money or risk your position. Or it may mean speaking up about a situation you know is wrong. By doing what is right, you will build respect for your honesty and integrity and in turn build trust in you and your decisions.
Step 4
Develop teamwork within your company or section and encourage employees to work towards shared goals.
