Are You Good Negotiator?
3 Tips Every Woman Should Know About Negotiating
-
Have a strategy
Timing can be everything. Have you recently completed a complex project that demonstrates your skills and ability to go above-and-beyond? Women are naturally empathetic which can give you a significant edge in negotiations by demonstrating your understanding of the company’s situation, the team environment, and how you can deliver the most impact to the business overall.
As with supply and demand, by identifying a time that you can demonstrate a clear need within the business and how you can fulfill that need, you’ll be in a strong position to discuss your role and negotiate in a way that is mutually beneficial.

Practice, practice, practice
The goal here is not to be perfect, but to become comfortable with the art of negotiation. Remember, negotiation is meant to be a two-way conversation, and that takes listening and compromise. So take the time to practice with a friend or mentor to help you craft your position, think about potential questions you may be asked, and brainstorm possible responses/options that your boss may bring up throughout the conversation. At the same time, know what you’re willing to compromise on and practice these responses too.

Getting what you deserve
